In 1972, J. Vincent McPhillips and Edward L. Lieland Jr. founded a firm built on the fundamental principle of providing quality accounting and tax services to local businesses and individuals. Both had begun their accounting careers in the 1950’s with one of Norfolk’s oldest and most respected CPA firms – Hilton, Sheffield and Hilton. The senior Hilton in the firm is widely considered to be one of the groundbreakers of the CPA profession in Virginia, and, in fact, held the second CPA certificate issued in the state of Virginia.
From modest beginnings our firm has grown into one of the largest and most respected accounting firms in the Hampton Roads region. In 1986, we found an ideal location on 150 Boush Street in downtown Norfolk. The new offices in Town Point Center were a perfect fit, offering space to expand our growing company and stunning views of the Elizabeth River. Even though the company has experienced mergers and the welcome addition of new partners, eventually becoming McPhillips, Roberts & Deans, PLC, one thing has remained constant: we have steadfastly maintained our commitment to building and sustaining client relationships.
This constant commitment to the fundamental principles of quality service and unbreakable relationships is a major factor that distinguishes MRD from other accounting firms. Our long-standing dedication to client satisfaction continues to be affirmed through extraordinary client retention. Many of our clients have been with us for decades.
MRD continues to provide a broad range of traditional accounting and tax services, just as we did when the firm began. Additionally we provide business and financial consulting services to clients in a broad spectrum of industries.
